PPCBank has reached a major milestone in the Kingdom’s banking sector, becoming one of the first commercial banks to introduce cross-border payment services in Japan. The move reinforces its commitment to delivering seamless, innovative, and customer-centric international banking solutions.
PPCBank Among First Cambodian Banks to Enable QR Payments in Japan
This strategic step comes as cross-border QR payment connectivity between Cambodia and Japan continues to advance rapidly. The integration enables Cambodian users to make real-time payments in Japan by scanning JPQR codes through PPCBank mobile app, marking a significant leap forward in digital financial interoperability between the two countries.
By aligning with this growing ecosystem, PPCBank is strengthening its ability to provide fast, secure and user-friendly international payment services. The initiative is designed to meet the rising demand from customers engaged in travel, education, and business activities between Cambodia and Japan – two markets with increasingly close economic and social ties.
The service is expected to benefit a wide range of users, including Cambodian workers living in Japan, students pursuing their studies abroad and businesses involved in cross-border trade. With competitive transaction fees, streamlined processes and enhanced accessibility through digital banking platforms, PPCBank aims to deliver a convenient and efficient payment experience tailored to modern customer needs.
This development also complements Cambodia’s expanding regional QR payment network. Through KHQR interoperability, Cambodian users can already make cross-border QR payments in several ASEAN countries, including Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore. The expansion into Japan further highlights Cambodia’s steady progress toward building a more integrated and inclusive digital payment ecosystem.
Beyond individual convenience, the move is expected to support broader economic activities such as trade, tourism and cross-border commerce. Strengthening the linkage between KHQR and international QR systems will help deepen financial connectivity, accelerate digital adoption and contribute to sustainable economic growth in the region.
Looking ahead, PPCBank remains committed to continuously enhancing its cross-border payment capabilities while exploring new partnerships to expand its footprint into additional international markets. The bank aims to play a proactive role in supporting Cambodia’s economic development by facilitating smoother and more accessible global financial transactions.
Mr. Lee Jin Young, President of PPCBank, emphasized the importance of the new initiative.
“The launch of cross-border payment services in Japan marks a significant milestone in our journey to provide seamless and innovative banking solutions for our customers. As financial ecosystems become increasingly interconnected, we are committed to ensuring that our customers can transact across borders with ease, security and confidence,” he said.
“We believe this initiative not only enhances convenience for individuals but also supports the broader economic relationship between Cambodia and Japan. PPCBank will continue to invest in digital innovation and strategic partnerships to expand our cross-border capabilities and contribute to Cambodia’s long-term economic growth,” he added.
