PPCBank Continues Support of Bankers’ cycling 2022 in Siem Reap

Siem Reap, October 30, 2022 : PPCBank is proud to have continued its support of the Association of Banks in Cambodia’s “Bankers’ Cycling 2022”. This year, PPCBank was a Gold Sponsor of the event which was held in Siem Reap on Sunday, October 30th. It was the first time in two years that the event was staged owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was organized by the Cambodia Cycling Federation (CCF) and co-organized by the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC). The event is held to raise awareness for sustainable finance, environmental protection and social responsibility, with a particular focus on preserving and promoting Siem Reap’s cultural heritage.

PPCBank’s sponsorship of the event was in line with the bank’s core values, namely: supporting the Khmer Riel; ensuring the sustainability of the kingdom’s banking sector and improving people’s lives through increased economic and social activity.

PPCBank President, Mr. Baek Jongil, said the bank has been pleased and proud to continue its association with the event. “This year’s Bankers’ Cycling was a great opportunity for the Cambodian people to promote the use of the Khmer Riel in a spirit of unity and inspiration through the sport of cycling. Not only is cycling good for one’s health, but also creates opportunities for making new friends and building solidarity.”

He added that, “This initiative has huge potential to create tremendous environmental benefits and we were pleased to have been part of this year’s event. We hope that it will help inspire the whole banking space to continue promoting economic development for sustainable finance in Cambodia, with the support of the Royal Government and the assistance of international development agencies.”

The Bankers’ Cycling event has always been a major drawcard for the tourism sector in Siem Reap and this year’s cycle was no different. All in all, 500 enthusiastic cyclists took part in two events – a 25km fun race and a more competitive 50km race. Two PPCBank cyclists were among this year’s entrants. They joined local and international participants, all supported by the Ministry of Environment, the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and the Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA).

The events started and finished at the famed “Terrace of the Elephants” in the Angkor Wat Archeological Park, with the race routes taking cyclists past some of Cambodia’s most important cultural sites. Not only did the routes emphasize the richness of Khmer cultural heritage, but also placed focus on environmental stewardship.

PPCBank will continue its support of the Bankers’ Cycling event, as it strives to make each and every day better for the Cambodian people. Operating for more than 14 years, the bank upholds a steadfast commitment to making communities stronger through its generosity of spirit and Corporate Social Responsibility programs which focus heavily on helping others less fortunate.
